Sprint and release update 2

We have had a surprising amount of advances on GetPaid from Argentina...here is a glimpse of the progress and some great news (like the first transaction!).

I just posted a note on theploneblog.org that I have been waiting to post since the Google sprint - an entry about GetPaid's birthday. Honestly, I had no idea so much was going to happen during this week. I am in Argentina at a retreat with our development team (made up for FairSource partners). Kapil decided to up and head to Argentina as well...

Last week was an enormous regional Free Software conference, where Plone was a main feature. There were dozens of Plone, Zope and Python talks (about 1500 people total). I gave a talk on "social sourcing", which is the name I use for how the project has been organized (and which just got accepted for the Plone Conference) and we organized an i18n sprint for GetPaid.

In addition to getting most of the product internationalized in one day, we decided to carry on the work on the product. We closed a lot of issues collaborating while Kapil refactored pieces of the checkout and layout. Among the issues tackled, a Zope 3 widget for country and state dropdowns was created (Javier and Matias), lots of internationalization work (and a translation to Spanish and Italian), fix of decimal places display, fix of usability issues (display of checkout button when no items in cart, adding checkout button on cart portlet). Also view for order administration were improved (especially for user). Bugs of admin screen links and workflow transitions were fixed. Additionally, ore.member was ripped out (and in the process we made possible anonymous checkout, and are in the process of adding it as a configuration option). The authorize.net process was broken and then fixed :) I was delighted to see an email from authorize.net saying that my payment had been authorized (see below)!

I was really blow away by the amount of things we got done here. I grabbed a huge bell from the hotel we are at (see photo) to institute celebrations for each fix:) Thanks to the FairSource team and to Kapil for his drive.

Progress towards release: update

Filed Under:

We have been working on a few final, but critical, issues leading up to the Red Ochre release of GetPaid. That has led to progress on the payment processor and several other issues (and some new discoveries). Additional work is needed on documentation, testing, and user interface. Read on for more info...

GetPaid has a number of outstanding issues at the moment in the leadup to our Red Ochre release (0.3, see issues here).

A few updates (from Argentina):

  • Issues are being added and eliminated. Please grab a bug or issue and help us hit the release!
  • The product README now contains information on getting started with the project (and was completely updated)
  • The dev site has been updated with the latest code as of today, which includes a fix of the payment processor (authorize.net)
  • A new tarball of products is available (from Aug 15)
  • Internationalization of the product is very advanced, and now includes a Spanish and Italian translation. Work pending on the zope-specific product (getpaid.core). Thanks to i18n Sprint participants at the Jornadas de Software Libre in Cordoba, Argentina!
  • Kapil is currently in Argentina working with a group of FairSource developers to work towards the release.
  • ore.member (a simple product for customizing membership properties) is being removed from the product before release
  • Documentation development is underway - if you can contribute, please see the outline here .

Call for testing reminder!

Please remember that we need help testing in preparation for the alpha release candidate! Get the latest tarball from our Google Code downloads section or you can also checkout the code via buildout by checking out the source. Please report any issues you find to thedevelopment mailing list. Check the Product Description/Readme after installation to learn about using the product.

The GetPaid i18n sprint is underway today at the Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre en Cordoba, Argentina. A small group of Plonistas is quickly giving the product some improvements to make it more apt for international use. Read more...

Gathered at the National University for the regional free software conference in Cordoba are a small group of Plonistas, mostly from ifPeople's FairSource partners, working on internationalization of GetPaid.
